After seven years at the helm of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir is handing over the reins to Datuk Badrul Hisham Mohd, who takes over as the agency's new director-general effective Aug 3.

Ahmad Parveez's tenure saw MPOB navigate one of the industry's most challenging periods, marked by stronger sustainability requirements, global market expansion and increasing scrutiny of Malaysia's palm oil sector.

His successor now inherits the task of steering the industry through its next phase of growth and transformation.

In a statement, MPOB said Badrul's appointment is expected to strengthen the board's position as a global leader in the palm oil industry.

"Badrul brings nearly three decades of experience in public administration and diplomacy, having played key roles in policy formulation, the development of the agriculture and plantation sectors, and strategic management across various ministries," it said.

Prior to his appointment, Badrul served as deputy secretary-general (sectoral) at the Economy Ministry since 2025.

He previously held the post of deputy secretary-general at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and had also served at the Works Ministry as well as the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

Throughout his public service career, Badrul played an important role in policy development, resource management, organisational transformation and the coordination of various strategic national initiatives.

He also served on the boards of several government agencies.

Badrul said MPOB has reached a stage of maturity that requires a fresh approach to ensure Malaysia's palm oil industry remains competitive amid an increasingly challenging global landscape.

"MPOB will continue to strengthen its role as the lead agency driving the development of the nation's palm oil industry.

"This is by placing greater emphasis on innovation, sustainability, transparency, traceability and more efficient and responsive service delivery in line with the aspirations of the Plantation and Commodities Ministry," he said.
