The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has developed two AI-powered applications, MySawit and Tekno Sawit, to support smallholders in managing their plantations more efficiently.

Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the development costs were kept low as both apps were built using open-source platforms and existing smart devices.

“The Tekno Sawit application assists smallholders in selecting suitable mechanisation and automation machinery for various plantation tasks, improving efficiency and productivity. Meanwhile, the MySawit application is designed to help manage palm oil plantation operations,” he said.

He was responding to Senator Hussin Ismail, who asked how AI technology could help tackle labour shortages in the plantation and commodity sectors.

Chan also revealed that MySawit is expected to be launched after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, further expanding digital solutions for smallholders in the industry.
