Police have foiled a bid to smuggle 900kg of crude oil after stopping a 3-tonne lorry travelling along the North-South Expressway.
Federal Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said two people, including the lorry driver, were arrested, while the vehicle was also seized.
In a statement, Yusri said a team from JSPT's Intelligence and Operations Unit was patrolling the highway yesterday afternoon when it was alerted to the lorry being driven suspiciously.
"The team approached the suspects and identified themselves.
"A check on the lorry found four intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) with one containing around 900kg of crude palm oil.
"The suspects did not possess any documentation for the palm oil which is suspected to have been smuggled."
Yusri said there were 13 outstanding summonses for the lorry.
The case is being investigated under the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Act.
