Dr. Ahmad Parveez Bin Ghulam Kadir, Director-General,

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB)


Dr. Ahmad Parveez is currently the Director-General of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), effective 10th August 2019. He is also very active in various professional societies including as the President of the International Society for Oil Palm Breeders (ISOPB) and Chairperson for the Asian Section of American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS).He has 32 years of experience in Plant Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, and Biosafety. He developed the world's first transgenic oil palm in 1997 has authored and co-authored almost 100 papers in refereed journals and more than 250 conference papers.

Drawing from over 15 years of GIS experience, specializing in precision agriculture and environmental management, Luk has led numerous successful geospatial projects in the government and commercial sectors. As a Senior Industry Consultant (Agriculture/Plantation) at Esri Malaysia, Luk is responsible for the industry solutioning framework design aligned to the market’s demands – and to ensure that proposed industry solutions accurately address industry needs. He holds a Master of Environmental Management in Development Planning and a B.A. (Hons) Geography in GIS & Remote Sensing.



Mohammad Zafrullah Salim, Scientist, R&D-Precision Agriculture Unit, Sime Darby Plantation Research Sdn Bhd


Mohammad Zafrullah Salim is a scientist whose achievements include the development of various forward-thinking approaches in precision agriculture. Among his notable achievements include creating a geospatial-based palm counting method capable of producing palm count up to 90% accuracy in immature fields (Age 1-2) using high-resolution satellite images. He is the author of Vitality Index (VI) Guideline on how to interpret VI through visual pattern and co-author of Semi-Automated Unpaved Road Extraction from Satellite Imagery using supervised classification method. Mohammad Zafrullah holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from UPM in Serdang and is currently completing a Master of Science in Agriculture Technology.
